Vanilla: the most famous scent in the world
It is said that the Emperor Montezuma offered the conqueror Hernardo Cortes a drink called “ the food of Gods “, with a highly stimulating aroma. It was hot chocolate flavored with vanilla.
Once imported to Spain, vanilla spread to rich European courts and became a luxury good particularly appreciated by the aristocracy.
But it’s in the 1800s that vanilla was introduced in the cosmetic sector, namely for soap and beauty products.
At the end of the century it also becomes an essence for perfumes ; as a matter of fact, up to that time, it has only been used to give fragrance to personal possessions such as gloves or handkerchiefs.
Besides its wonderful scent, vanilla has several properties . it is a natural antiseptic and an excellent soother, frequently used against stress and insomnia<
Moreover, it’s a polyphenol with great antioxidant power, thus it helps to keep our body young , fighting against free radicals.
