Caramel has been one of the most appreciated sweets for centuries. There are several ways to taste this delicious food made of sugar, for example on top of your ice cream or, as we do here at Emmepi Dolci, as a wonderful coffee biscuit.
There’s a legend about this special aroma.
It is said that the Emperor Montezuma offered the conqueror Hernardo Cortes a drink called “ the food of Gods “, with a highly stimulating aroma. It was hot chocolate flavored with vanilla.
Today it is usually sold in sticks and kept in glass pots, far from light and heat ; it is a common ingredients in apple pies, but it is a good partner also for chocolate , cream…and even salty recipes!
The tradition of baking bread twice ( the name in Latin was panis siccus biscotus ) dates back to the crusades in the holy land , the long journeys along the silk route and the great sea explorations.
